Flypaper Textures_Learn Texturing with Paul and Jill

Paul Grand is British but lives in France and Jill (Borealnz) is from New Zealand, they met via Flickr and have been collaborating to create beautiful sets of textures with " how to" explanation an great before and after shots of there work. It is a great teaching blog about texture art. I purchased both sets of high resolution textures and love them because I can experiment following along with their directions and have an idea what the final outcome may somewhat resemble. But remember no two images are the same and every textured piece with have its own personality.

A Night of Fashion for Photographers

KEVRO'S ART BAR
166 SE 2nd Ave
Delray Beach, FL 33444
561-278-9675

On Saturday March 6th from 8:00 to 12:00pm; SFAA is hosting our first art/fashion/music themed event...and we hope you will mark your calendar and plan to attend. The event will feature five fashion photographers (Tara Hauck, Gregory Ross, Gary Kane, Tracey Ahrendt and Michele Eve Sandberg). Karen Reinstatler of Pink Slip Threads will be introducing a new funky clothing collection for the first time. Throughout the evening, the models will surf through the crowd, so let the cameras begin flashing!!

Please be sure to invite anyone you may know in the fashion industry as well....we'd love to open the invitation to any makeup artists, models, hairstylists and others "in the biz".

We will enjoy the original music of Alex Nelson and Roxanne LaMendola. Both are fantastic local singer/songwriters that you won't want to miss!

This is also planned to be the first fundraiser since SFAA has registered as a non-profit organization. In order for us to develop more opportunites for the creative industries, we could really use your support. So, if you have benefitted in anyway within the last 3 1/2 years from this meetup, we really hope that you can make it a priority to attend this particular event! 100% of the $5.00 door charge will go to develop programming and workshops to assist the local arts community! Bring friends...we need you!

Thanks again for your help spreading the word, and we continue to strive to support and provide opportunites for the local arts!

The rotating exhibits are loaned to the City for approximately six to eight weeks and provide contact with a broad spectrum of high quality artwork through varied techniques and mediums. GardensArt has earned and maintained an exceptional reputation among professional artists and the community as a whole. The program offers workshops, artist demonstrations, musical performances, and community partnerships in order to make the program more interactive. All of the exhibits are free and open to the public.

My Photo "Old Florida Soul" is on Exhibit in Southeast Gallery

 Florida Soul
Southeast Gallery of Photographic Art
Old Florida .  Exhibition Dates: January 2 to February 27, 2010Public and Artists Reception: Wednesday January 6, 2010   7pm to 9pm

Old Florida is disappearing fast. If it's not termites and hurricanes, development has mowed through old schools, churches, and homes. Preservation is not easy and too often economics wins over conserving old buildings. This exhibition will feature pictures of architecture and landmarks, styles and colors, life in a slower time.

I created this photomontage for the exhibit Old Florida after meeting Willie Anderson an " Old Florida Soul" in downtown WPB playing the saxahone on the street. After I took some pictures of him I  interviewed him. He told me about his long life in Fl living on a farm , his mother the horses he loved and how they traveled in wagons to church' but most of all he talked about the music which he dreamed of while he worked. One dream he realize he traveled to Chicago for a time and played in a blues band leraning many instuments.
Now he is back in Florida and life is harder he says. "Life was hard on the farm but we always knew we had the crops in the field and food on the table". I hope this picture is a tribute to his dreams his music and the life he lived.

Tom Tracy's Slide Show of Haiti

My Friend Tom Tracy courageously traveled to Haiti with a group from South Florida shortly after the earthquake. His images are so moving and powerful.  I hope he soon finds them with a wider viewing audience as they are a motivating force for the World to Help in this terrible crisis.

Egret in Morning Light

This Grand Great White Egret was standing on the rail at Grassy Waters Preserve , the morning light was illuminating his feathers beautifully and his commanding presence was so elegant .I hoped to capture it in this image.
I warpped the wood some in PS and added a soft texture to give a painterly feel.
In the future of this blog I will share information and links on how this process is done.
