Anyway I was in the sweet spot where the fence magically disappeared in front of their bodies. I love when this happens but is hard to make it work I guess it is depending on light and settings. But of course the back fence still ruined the shot. This is the beauty of using textures. Presto the background now looks like a dusty place in the jungle . Share/Bookmark

Hello Melinda:

Congratulations! You image was selected as one of our finalist in our "All Things Red" photography competition. You have a 1 in 15 chance of winning $500 cash and having your photo featured in our next set of limited edition note cards.

We've had four winners so far in 2010. In two weeks, we'll announce our 5th winner. We think your image will do very well, but the key to winning is letting your friends and family know your image is a finalist and encourage them to come vote your entry. Many of our past winners have used facebook and twitter to get the word out. That's ok. Everyone can vote one time per day (one vote per computer) and they do NOT have to register to vote. For reference, your entry number is #226370.

Thank you again for submitting this wonderful image and we wish you luck in the voting. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Strange days indeed .Digital Art

I found this well done and interesting work and also the art link to the inspiration for the work by A Dutch painter .

Acire created it and has this to say....
I turned it into a tribute to Dutch painter Carel Willink.
His Magic Realism I found always awe inspiring, once had the pleasure to be introduced to him and his then wife Mathilde thanks to my uncle,at some gallery opening in Amsterdam.
I was in my teens,he seemed very old and his wife very beautiful and so much younger than he was।

I am psychologist, who adore art and music:) I preffer see things when my eyes are closed. For me the inner visual world has an almost eternal demension...almost emotional experience trough colors and forms...when i open my eyes i can see only light...the light as a representation of a human soul...So complicated and changable....

Quotes of the Day

"I only know how to approach a place by walking. For what does a street photographer do but walk and watch and wait and talk, and then watch and wait some more, trying to remain confident that the unexpected, the unknown, or the secret heart of the known awaits just around the corner."
- Alex Webb, Magnum Photographer

"I took the portrait out of the studio and started getting into real life."
- Arnold Newman

"You must learn to love the obvious"
"I photograph to see what the world looks like in photographs."
- Winogrand

“My photographs are more questions than answers. I use photography as a way to help me understand why I am here. The camera helps me to see."
-Trent Parke

"They asked me:
"'How do you make your pictures?' I was puzzled . . .
"I said, 'I don't know, it's not important.'

"The world is going to pieces and people like Adams and Weston are photographing rocks!"
- Henri Cartier-Bresson

The marvels of daily life are exciting; no movie director can arrange the unexpected that you find in the street.
- Robert Doisneau

"The pictures are there, you just take them."
- Robert Capa

I have no inhibitions and neither has my camera
- Weegee

"There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment."
- Robert Frank

"It's slightly dishonest, but I say I'm collecting photons that would disappear anyway. I'm not doing anyone any harm."

Creating A Portfolio

I have been working on this idea and found this link helpful.

Article and Photographs by: Alain Briot

Creating a portfolio of your work is one of the most important things you can accomplish as a photographer. Unfortunately, relatively few photographers create portfolios because they find the process daunting or think their work is not good enough to be included in a portfolio. Others squirm at the idea they will have to review thousands of photographs taken over many years. Yet others do not know how to select photographs for a portfolio. Finally, there are those who believe that a portfolio cannot be created by themselves, that such an endeavor has to be conducted under the control of a museum or a gallery or needs to take place in the context of a retrospective of the artist’s work.
While these concerns are fair, let me start by saying that they are inaccurate. Assembling a portfolio is not the daunting and frightening task it is touted to be. Let’s start by taking a close look at what is a portfolio, proceed to study why it is important to create portfolios of your work, and finally learn how you can create a portfolio of your own work. Throughout this article I will use portfolios I have created as examples

Free Texture Groups on Flickr

The are a number of groups that share textures for free but my favorite group is "Texture for Layers"

Many artist upload textures to share and all have free "creative commons" license.
The Group rules from Telzey. Lydia Marano
"This texture is free to use in your personal or commercial work, but you may not reshare, distribute, or claim/imply it to be your own." Update , i have learned that you can not join group unless you show you have active photostream showing your work on Flickr.Sorry.

Lydia is a very creative artist and I found this fun utube video showing some of her work.
